Collectors and traders spent $22 billion on NFTs last year, and the market is still growing. In India, creators are exploring the prospects that come with establishing their own NFTs. However, here, it is becoming more than a new monetisation tool and providing fans with more personalised access.

Despite the increasing recognition in art spaces, finding artists in this field can still be challenging. We did the digging and found some of the best artists in the Indian NFT scene to have on your radar!

Bhat is known for his distinctive artistic capturing of faces. His viral GIFs have been published on several famous platforms. His partner’s timely suggestion propelled him to explore domains of creativity ranging from graphic design to stage/stall design for several premium Indian businesses, eventually leading to the development of Graphicurry — an independent artist company shop and design studio located in Bangalore.

In 2021, Chakraborty presented an NFT collection of eight women she met while travelling — at an Embers exhibition. She told Analytics India magazine about the first-of-a-kind exhibition she curated in collaboration with WazirX’s platform. The curators added an AR layer to showcase the paintings. According to Chakraborty, the NFT community is developing, and there is still a long way to go.

Her work is fun, expressive, and has appeared in magazines such as Vice, Communication Arts, Fast Company, Creative Review, It’s Nice That, and Wepresent. Despite the many ways she has redefined the space of art in India, even being one of the pioneers of the 3D movement in India, she tells us, “there’s still tons more to explore”.

The NFT artist stirred the digital space in 2021 with his Caged NFT collection on OpenSea. The series is inspired by Hassan’s fascination for glass snow globes. The dreamy effect of snow globes once stirred was a source of inspiration for the collection, drawing hints from nature, bold skull motifs and the mental state.

The illustrator, storyteller, and animator has been in the scene since 2016. Kalra’s art ranges from odes to Delhi, a futuristic take on the Rs 2,000 currency and flying automobiles. With a strong following, Kalra is quite a popular NFT creator among the first wave of Indian NFT enthusiasts.

Reintroducing “Chessfinity”

I was 10 years old when my father sat me down and taught me how to play chess
“this isn’t just a game” he said, “this is something much much more”

The 15-year-old digital artist, Laya Mathikshara of Chennai Public School, has successfully sold NFTs worth $1 million. One of her artworks titled ‘What if Moon had life?’ listed a reserve price of 0.384400 ETH inspired by the distance between the Moon and the Earth (3,84,400 km). The artwork was sold for 0.39 ETH (₹90,500) on the Foundation platform.

Breath In – Breath Out

The Indian NFT space’s toymaker creates digital toys inspired by nostalgia and a sense of excitement as a youngster. He is busy creating toy faces and 3D dioramas. In July 2021, he sold his signature digital ‘toy face’ of the artist Frida Kahlo for 3.9 Ethereum (ETH) (approximately Rs 6,63,651. Pal’s profession revolves around his 3D illustration, art direction, and visual art work.

Extremely excited to share Toy Rooms, a collection of iconic rooms illustrated in quarantine. It’s one of the first collections to drop on Foundation. All nine Toy Rooms are listed right now and available for a bid. Please spread the word! ♥️

The 57-year-old artist, who jumped on the NFT bandwagon a year ago, is best known for his exquisite style of landscape and figurative paintings largely inspired by his travels across India and the globe. Maity has teamed up with Gallery Art Exposure from Kolkata to drop a total of five NFT-based assets on the WazirX marketplace.
